Our goal is to work with residents to create a riverwalk that will honor the area’s unique history and culture, provide people access to the falls and opportunities for recreation and education, restore and enhance the environment, and serve as a catalyst for a revitalized downtown Oregon City and beyond.
This is no ordinary Open House! Our event will include fun, thought-provoking activities that will allow the design team to hear directly from the community about the experiences people want and don’t want on the riverwalk. Stations will include two image-based games with the designers -that’s all we will tell you for now, but we promise they will be fun!
Other stations are:
- Storytelling: Have a story or idea to share? Let us take a short video to record it!
- Ask the Experts: Want to get into the details? Talk with our staff and consultant experts on habitat, history, culture, and economic development. Ask pre-selected questions or come with your own! We’ll take notes for the design team to review later.
- For the Kids – Build a Lamprey: Construct a lamprey and learn about these incredible creatures that call Willamette Falls home.
We are open from 3 to 8PM. Come anytime and stay as long as you’d like! At 6PM, you can hear a short presentation from our partners and design team.
The Abernethy Center is located at 606 15th Street in Oregon City, 97045. Free parking, snacks, drinks, kids activities, and Spanish translation services will be available. Bring the whole family!

Today, riverwalk design begins, with the world-class design collective of Snøhetta, Mayer/Reed and DIALOG. A concept for the project will be developed in 2016, which will lead to detailed design drawings and eventually construction of a first riverwalk phase.
To do that we need your help. Tell us—what do you imagine for the riverwalk? We want to collect thousands of ideas, hearing from every Oregonian. We’ve already engaged thousands of Oregonians to create a vision for a place where people can live, work, play and admire the falls. But we need your help now to make sure that the riverwalk is designed and activated in a way that serves the community.
